Environmental Responsibility
The Group’s Development Strategy is directly related to the HSE management goals. Increasing environmental responsibility is one of the major initiatives included in the Turkistan Oil Refinery Strategy-2028. Priorities for the group in terms of environmental protection include managing greenhouse gas emissions and reducing flaring, managing water resources, managing production waste, reclaiming land, and using less energy.
The “Environmental Policy” was approved in accordance with the Strategy’s aims. The management of Turkistan Oil Refinery, its subsidiaries, and affiliates adheres to the policy of zero tolerance for environmental pollution-related losses and damages. The updated Environmental Policy was passed in 2023. Turkistan Oil Refinery Environmental Policy has been amended in compliance with the demands of the new Environmental Code to ensure the gathering, accumulation, storage, analysis, and transmission of environmental information. Additionally, Turkistan Oil Refinery was given stronger requirements regarding the prudent use of natural resources and adherence to conservation measures for biodiversity.
Energy use and saving
We have been working hard to improve the company’s utilization of energy resources and energy efficiency. Turkistan Oil Refinery Corporate Center performs benchmarking against the past and with the performance of competitors in the industry. It gathers and analyzes data on energy consumption and energy efficiency indicators, monitors progress and spots areas for development (IOGP).
The methodology of the international standard ISO 50001 “Energy Management Systems,” which is the finest generally accepted international practice in system management in this activity, serves as the foundation for the Company’s work in the field of energy conservation and efficiency. Due to lower gas transit volumes and lower hydrocarbon output as a result of the pandemic, energy consumption is down compared to 2023. The Turkistan Oil Refinery of Companies generated 406.0 million kW of electricity and 4,096 thousand Gcal of thermal energy on their own in 2022.
An emerging and promising trend in the oil and gas sector is the employment of cutting-edge technologies and renewable energy sources. The following renewable energy technologies have been deployed in KTG, specifically in the AGP and ICA subsidiaries: monocrystalline solar panels (batteries), geothermal heat pumps of the Waterkotte type, and thermoelectric generators (Closed cycle vapor turbogenerator). The Turkistan Oil Refinery uses the renewable energy it produces.
